I Need Some Christmas Prozac

I’m sitting here at work, not wanting to work, and listening to one of the all-Christmas radio stations playing the same round of Christmas songs over and over and over again. Then, to make matters worse, on comes “Another Auld Lang Syne” and that just puts me over the edge…

So I thought it would be “fun” to put together a list of the most depressing Christmas songs ever.

Here are my Top 5:

“Another Auld Lang Syne”
Dan Fogelberg

“Hard Candy Christmas”
Dolly Parton

"Please Daddy Don't Get Drunk this Christmas"
John Denver

“Do They Know It’s Christmas”
Band Aid

“Christmas Shoes”
Newsong

Any of you Scrooges want to add to this comprehensive list?

I promise, I’ll be ok…

Ok, this should make some enemies:

Happy Christmas (War is Over)
John Lennon.

The guys at Lean Left have The Christmas Shoes by NewSong as their number one worst Christmas song ever. Having never heard that one, my vote is also for that craptastic Dan Fogelberg song. It's HORRENDOUS and so bad I actually have to listen to it when it's on.

Have a look at their other ones:

The comments got downright heated!

LOL! I was going to put Happy Christmas (War is Over), so thanks for being brave enough! :-)

Thanks for the Lean Left link, Jag! I love snark...

Step into Christmas by my man Elton John

Hey, John was my favorite Beatle for sadly fairly obvious reasons, and I really don't hate that song, but HATE is a mild word for how I feel about Christmas Shoes, and that damn Fogleberg song.

Cindy Lauper (who I actually like and who can really sing, usually) bites the big one on her 'duet' with Sinatra on Santa Claus is Coming to Town'.

I would have to agree with Christmas Shoes, the worst

I heard that "Christmas Shoes" song way too much last year. So far, I've been able to avoid it this year. Though I'm sure I'll get caught in Kroger one day with no way out as it comes on over the speakers.

It's not technically a Christmas song... but it does mention Christmas in the first verse.

Joni Mitchell - The River

I used to listen to that song on Christmas Eve when I was in Nashville... missing my family... and cry!

Or how about a song that was never recorded... but should have been.

The Sony Art Department Girls singing "I Saw Ginger Screwing Santa Claus"

Now that, my friend, is a Christmas classic! ;)

Oh. My. God. I just startled the entire office here with my screech at Jod-wah's last comment! That is SO an inside joke! One that I thought had been looooonnnnnggggggg forgotten!

In the words of Bob Hope, "Thanks for the memories." :)

I have another to add to the list: Don't know the title for sure but is sang by Rosie O'Donnel and Elmo. It's horrible

Also, Backdoor Santa performed by Bon Jovi
